Nick Stolk:
I chose “O Holy Night” for my first song. I remember standing around my Great Aunt Mary’s piano, singing it every Christmas Eve. And I recall my Great Uncles — who couldn’t hold a tune in a bucket — belting it out, sounding nothing like the kids’ choir in this recording from the movie "Home Alone."
The “Hallelujah Chorus” makes my spirit soar as they sing “Lord of Lords” and “King of Kings” in perfect harmony. And on top of that, another section of Handel’s Messiah proclaims “Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”
I add my testimony of the Savior as a Friend and a loving Elder Brother.
Simree Stolk:
The Christmas season is a time filled with light, love, music, family, and togetherness. Through songs, we can feel peace, love, and support, and we can remember that the greatest gift we have ever been given is Jesus Christ. “Glory” is about the peace that the Savior brings to our lives. It is so easy to feel restless and divided in this world, but this song reminds us that Christ is our peace — and when we let Him fill us with His peace, we can find strength we couldn’t see before.
“Noel” speaks of the miracle that is Christ. He is our light, He is good, and He is our gift. It reminds us that He stepped into the darkness — into our own problems and trials — and brought hope and love.
Growing up, I was blessed to learn that Christ is my Savior, my Brother, the Creator, and so much more. Christ has brought peace into my life and given me strength when I felt as though I had nothing left to give. The love of Christ strengthens families and allows us to come together as one. The family unit is His great creation; He gave us people who can share His love through every season.
I’m beyond blessed by the love in my life, the people in my life, and the light in my life — all thanks to my Savior and my Father in Heaven. Christmas is a beautiful season that brings us together and showers us with the love that is Christ. I know that as we remember Christ, love Him, and walk with Him — not only at Christmastime but through every season — we will always be able to find peace, see love, and feel light.
